COLLEGE PARK, MD. – Linda Rush hit a grand slam and Brooklyn Daly struck out a career-high nine batters in a 16-3 win against Bryant on Friday afternoon in day one of the Maryland Invitational.
After a scoreless first inning, Drexel jumped out to a four run lead in the second inning with a grand slam from Rush to plate Elena Woulfe, Hannah Walker and Megan Trivelpiece. Bryant, however, answered quickly in the bottom of the frame with a three-run homer from Dakota Bilodeau.
Those three runs were all Bryant was able to score as Drexel used two back-to-back six-run innings break open the game and secure the victory. Woulfe started things off in the sixth inning with a RBI single to left field before a ground out gave Swanson the chance to score. Rush then doubled to left center to send in Walker and Haley Hulitt closed out the scoring in the sixth with a three-run homer.
In the seventh inning, the Dragons used three RBI singles from Walker, Ladrido and Woulfe before Rush and DiMeo smacked RBI doubles to left field for the 16-3 victory.
Brooklyn Daly picked up the win in the circle only allowing three hits and three runs while striking out nine batters in seven innings of work.
Drexel will continue action in the Maryland Invitational later this afternoon.
