Record Afternoon for Women's Lacrosse Leads to 22-4 Win Over CCSU

PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel women's lacrosse team was clicking on all cylinders from start to finish on Saturday afternoon at Vidas Field as the Dragons tied a program record for goals scored in a 22-4 victory over Central Connecticut State. The Dragons got goals from 11 different players and multiple goals from eight of them as they improved to 5-4 on the season after their third consecutive victory.
Drexel tied a record set on April 14, 1988 in a 22-5 win against Bryn Mawr and matched on April 23, 2006 in a 22-3 win against Howard. The Dragons scored 16 in the first half before slowing the tempo and allowing the running clock to wind down in the second. Drexel dominated possession, winning 20 of 27 draws on the afternoon.
Jamie Schneidereith had four goals and an assist and Colleen Grady scored twice with three helpers to lead the way with five points apiece. Karson Harris finished with a hat trick, adding an assist for four points. Cassidy Delaney, Hayleigh Simpson, Claire Jarema, Maggie Stetson and Courtney Dietzel each scored twice, with Delaney and Dietzel adding assists. Lindsey Dean, Grace Harding and Sophia Watkinson scored once each and Grace Osterdale added two assists to round out the scoring for the Dragons.
Harris accounted for eight of Drexel's 20 draw control victories, a career high and the most for any active Dragon in any game. Bridget Boyle added three draws and Dean had two. Zoe Bennett and Sigourney Heerink each played half the game and came up with two saves apiece.
Drexel scored first on Simpson's first of the day, and after the Blue Devils evened things up with 26:49 to go in the first half, the Dragons seized control with seven straight goals over the next 7:59 of play. Harris and Grady scored two each in the run.
It was 9-3 when Maggie Stetson started what would turn out to be an 11-goal stretch for the Dragons that kept Central Connecticut off the scoreboard for 36:11 of game time as they built a 20-3 lead. The clock began running when Jarema scored to make it a 13-3 game with 8:33 to play in the first half.
The only drama remaining in the second was whether or not the Dragons would match the record goal total last set 13 seasons ago. It happened with exactly 2:00 to play when Dean netted her first of the season off a feed from Schneidereith, providing the final margin of 22-4.
Drexel will be back in action next Saturday when the Dragons close out non-conference play at home against Robert Morris. That game is set to get underway at 3 p.m.
