Second Half Drought Dooms Women's Lax, 13-10

PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel women's lacrosse wrapped up non-conference play on Saturday afternoon, falling at home to Robert Morris, 13-10. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Dragons, who will enter Colonial Athletic Association action 5-5. The teams were tied at five at the break, but Robert Morris scored the first five goals of the second half and held Drexel off the scoreboard for the first 15:17 of the half to build a decisive lead.
Karson Harris finished with three goals, two assists and nine draw controls, the most for any Dragon this season. Harris now has 17 goals over the past two games. Colleen Grady also had a hat trick for the Dragons. Courtney Dietzel scored a pair of goals and had a caused turnover while Grace Osterdale and Marah Hayes each netted a goal. Zoe Bennett had 14 saves in the loss.
The Dragons got on the board first, with Harris winning the opening draw and setting up a quick goal by Grady just 13 seconds into the game. Robert Morris answered with four straight goals before Dietzel got Drexel back on the board.
Trailing 5-2, Drexel held the Colonials off the scoreboard for the final 12:13 of the first half as the Dragons chipped away with three goals capped by a Grady score just under seven seconds before halftime that evened things up at 5-5. After trailing for nearly the entire first half, the Dragons appeared to have regained momentum heading into the break.
Instead, the intermission seemed to stall Drexel's surge, as Robert Morris scored first just over 30 seconds into the second half to start what would be a 5-0 run. Drexel did not net its first goal of the second half until just 14:43 remained, when Cassidy Delaney found Harris for the sophomore's second goal of the afternoon. Thirty seconds later, Harris fed Hayes for a goal, and Dietzel capped a quick 3-0 Drexel spurt with 13:34 to go, making it a 10-8 game just 1:09 after Robert Morris had led by five.
Again, the Dragons' push stalled out as Robert Morris settled down and posted the game's next two goals. Harris and Grady would add late goals for the Dragons, but it was not enough as they fell, 13-10.
Drexel will open CAA play on Friday when the Dragons visit Elon for a 6 p.m. game. The Dragons will also head to William & Mary over the weekend before returning home the following Friday, April 12, to take on James Madison at 6 p.m.
