NORFOLK, VA. - Drexel softball dropped two games on Saturday afternoon on day two of the Blue and White Classic. The Dragons fell 5-2 to Hampton and were edged 6-5 by Albany.
In game one, the Dragons struck first with a RBI double from Linda Rush and a homer from Kristi DiMeo to put them up 3-0 after the first.
Sarah Clinton extended the lead, reaching on a bunt to plate Rush and give the Dragons a 4-0 advantage in the third.
Albany quickly fought back, though, tying the game 4-4 in the following frame. Albany carried this momentum into the fifth inning where they earned another run, but Drexel did not back down as DiMeo hit her second home run of the day to tie the game again.
Devon Grippe struck out two in the seventh but it was not enough to contain Albany who scored a clutch run for the 6-5 victory.
In game two, Taylor Kent and Hannah Walker put the Dragons on the board in the second inning with singles to drive in two runs against Hampton.
Brooklyn Daly struck out three batters in the third inning to help the Dragons hold onto their lead, however, Hampton retaliated in the fourth to tie the game 2-2.
Drexel found a few more opportunities throughout the remainder of the game but couldn't put another run on the board as Hampton padded its lead 5-2 in the final frames.
Drexel will wrap up play at then Hampton Blue & White Classic tomorrow at 10 a.m. against South Carolina State.
