Softball Run-Rules Penn in 8-0 Win

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel University softball team (29-17-1) earned an 8-0 win over the Penn Quakers (21-15) in a six-inning, run-rule victory from the Drexel Softball Field on Thursday evening.
Linda Rush led the way for the Dragons at the plate as she went 3-for-4 with a home run, double and three RBI. Elena Woulfe went 2-for-4 with two RBI while Kristi DiMeo was 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Brooklyn Daly (W, 15-6) picked up the win as she threw 5.0 shutout innings, allowing just two hits while striking out three. Devon Grippe closed out the effort.
Rush opened the game up with an RBI single in the third inning as Jenelle Ladrido came around to score. In the fifth, Rush hit a solo shot over the right field fence to put the Dragons up 2-0.
Drexel then went on to score six runs in the sixth to run-rule the Quakers. With runners on second and third, Taylor M. Lee laid down a bunt as Sarah Clinton was running on the play to bring in the third run. A two-run single from Woulfe then made it 5-0.
With two on, Rush hit a ball just a foot short of a home run that went for an RBI double, putting two in scoring position for DiMeo, 6-0.
DiMeo ended the game in the next at-bat with a two-run single, 8-0.

Drexel travels to Harrisonburg, Va. for a three-games series against James Madison, starting with a doubleheader on Saturday.
