Softball Drops Saturday Doubleheader at No. 20 James Madison

HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Drexel University softball team (29-19-1, 9-8 CAA) dropped a road doubleheader to the No. 20 James Madison Dukes (40-7, 16-1 CAA) on Saturday afternoon from Veterans Memorial Park in Harrisonburg, Va. JMU won game one in five innings, 14-0, before taking game two, 9-4.
GAME ONE – L, 14-0 (5)
James Madison rolled in the first game of the conference doubleheader. The Dukes scored 14 runs on 14 hits in the effort with five runs in the first, four in the second, one in the third and four in the fourth.
Drexel managed to break up JMU's Odicci Alexander's perfect game in the final frame. The Dragons only baserunner came when Megan Trivelpiece doubled to left center to leadoff the fifth inning.
GAME TWO – L, 9-4
JMU jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead in game two after five runs in the first inning and another in the second. The Dukes tacked on two more as Odicci Alexander hit her second home run of the contest in the fourth inning, 8-0.
Drexel bats then came alive in the top of the fifth to fight off the run-rule ending.
With one out, Hannah Walker singled through the right side for the Dragons' second hit of the affair. After a fielder's choice, an error put two on with two outs for Drexel. Two runs came around to score when Linda Rush singled to left field. Kristi DiMeo then delivered her 18th home run of the campaign, a two-run shot. Drexel trailed 8-4 going into the bottom half of the inning.
James Madison managed one final run in the fifth on an RBI single.
DiMeo went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run while Rush went 2-for-4 with a run. Reilly Jo Swanson and Walker both notched singles in the loss.
Devon Grippe (L, 9-7) pitched 4.2 innings before being relieved by game-one starter, Brooklyn Daly, for the final 1.1 innings.
