PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel University softball team (30-21-1) picked up its 30th win of the season as the Dragons split a Tuesday afternoon doubleheader with the Howard Bison (16-27) from the Drexel Softball Complex. Howard won game one, 5-2, before Drexel won game two in the same fashion, 5-2.
Drexel earned its 30th win of the season on Tuesday, the first 30-win campaign for the Dragons since 2001.
GAME ONE – L, 5-2
Drexel could not get its bats going in the game-one matchup. Howard started the scoring with a two-run single off the bat of Shayna Swanson in the top of the second. The Bison added a run in the third on a bunt single to take a 3-0 lead.
The Dragons recorded their first run in the third. Elena Woulfe notched an infield single to start the inning. She advanced to second on a wild pitch before a flyout to right center moved her to third. Woulfe then scored a passed ball, 3-1.
In the fourth, Taylor M. Lee hit a solo shot to left center for her ninth home run of the season to pull the Dragons within one, 3-2.
Drexel let in two more Howard runs in the fifth behind a wild pitch and passed ball as the Bison held on to win, 5-2.
Woulfe went 3-for-4 for Drexel while Hannah Walker was 2-for-3.
GAME TWO – W, 5-2
Drexel jumped out to a 4-0 lead with no outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the first but left the three runners stranded to end the inning. The Dragons notched five hits in the inning including an RBI single from Elena Woulfe, an RBI double from Kristi DiMeo and a two-run single from Haley Hulitt.
Hulitt picked up another RBI in the single on a base hit up the middle to bring home Linda Rush.
Brooklyn Daly picked up her 16th win of the season as she tossed 5.0 innings with three stakeouts and two runs. Meghan Conroy pitched the final 2.0 innings, allowing one run.
In the fifth, Howard got one the board with an RBI single. Taylor Kent ended the inning as she recorded an outfield assist as a Bison runner attempted to go first to third on a base hit to right field. Kent's throw one-hopped Hannah Walker at third for the easy tag.
Howard added a final run in the seventh on a single as the Dragons won, 5-2, for their 30th win of the year.
