Softball Takes Down UNCW in Road Doubleheader on Saturday

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Drexel University softball team (23-11-1, 7-1 CAA) took the first two of a three-game series from UNCW Seahawks (21-18, 3-5 CAA) on Saturday from Boseman Field in Wilmington, N.C. The Dragons won game one, 8-6, before the offensive erupted in game two for a 12-0 win in five innings.
Kristi DiMeo and Linda Rush both posted three-RBI games in the 8-6 game one victory. Devon Grippe allowed just one hit in game two as Drexel had season-bests of seven doubles and eight extra-base hits in the 12-0 game two win.
GAME ONE / W, 8-6 / BOX SCORE
Drexel fell behind 2-0 after a two-run homer by UNCW in the bottom of the first. In the third inning, Linda Rush responded with her own two-run shot, coming as her 13th home run of the season, to even the score, 2-2.
In the top of the fifth, Kristi DiMeo got in on the action with her 14th home run of the campaign, a solo shot, to put the Dragons up 3-2. In the bottom half of the inning, a two-run double put the Seahawks back up 4-3.
Rush earned her third RBI to start a five-run sixth inning for the Dragons to regain the lead, this time for good. DiMeo followed with a two-run single to cap her three-RBI performance. Haley Hulitt then notched an RBI groundout before Trivelpiece singled up the middle to score Jenelle Ladrido. By the end of the sixth, Drexel held an 8-4 margin.
UNCW got two back in the bottom of the seventh to cut Drexel's lead down to two, 8-6, but the Dragons held on for the game one win.
Brooklyn Daly (W, 13-2) grabbed her 13th win in the circle, tossing 7.0 innings with two strikeouts.

One of the nation's top offenses poured it on in the game two win, scoring seven runs in the top of the first before winning 12-0 in a run-rule effort. DU notched a season-high seven doubles and season-best eight extra-base hits in the victory.
Drexel batted around in the first. With Rush on via a walk, Haley Hulitt doubled her in to start the scoring. Trivelpiece then doubled down the right field line to score Hulitt before Taylor Lee doubled down the left field line to bring home Trivelpiece. Elena Woulfe recorded the Dragons' fourth-straight double to score Lee, making it 4-0 as the Dragons chased the UNCW starter just two outs into the game. Hannah Walker brought home two more runs in the inning with Drexel's fifth double. Sarah Clinton finished the scoring with an RBI single to right field as th Dragons led 7-0.
Devon Grippe (W, 8-5) was lights out in the circle, allowing just one hit over the five-inning complete game. UNCW got its only hit in the bottom of the second on a single to second base. Grippe only allowed two more baserunners via walks as she had 1-2-3 innings in the first and fourth frames. No Seahawks made it past first base in the game.
Drexel added a run in the second inning on an RBI single from Lee to make it 8-0.
Rush doubled home the Dragons' ninth run in the top of the fifth before Hulitt sent a three-run bomb over the right center fence to put Drexel on top for the 12-0 win.
