Softball Set to Play in First CAA Championships Since 2005

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Fresh off its first 30-win season since 2001, the Drexel University softball team will play for a CAA Championship after qualifying for the league tournament for the first time since 2005. The five-team, double-elimination tournament begins on Wednesday, May 8 with the championship series slated for Friday, May 10. James Madison hosts the conference championships in Harrisonburg, Va. at Veterans Memorial Park.
CAA FIELD
James Madison garnered the No. 1 seed in the tournament followed by No. 2 Elon, No. 3 Towson, No. 4 Drexel and No. 5 Charleston. This is the third time that Drexel has qualified for the conference tournament, going 0-2 in both 2002 and 2005.
On Wednesday, the first game will feature No. 4 Drexel (30-25-1, 9-12 CAA) and No. 5 College of Charleston (25-28, 9-12 CAA) at 11 a.m. No. 2 Elon (31-18-1, 13-7 CAA) and No. 3 Towson (27-25, 10-11 CAA) will play in game two at 1:30 p.m., followed by top-seeded James Madison (44-7, 20-1 CAA) and the winner of game one at 4:00 p.m. in game three. The losers of games one and two will play each other at 6:30 p.m. in game four.
Thursday's games open at noon with a battle of the winners of games two and three in the semifinals. At 2:30 p.m., the winner of game four and the loser of game three play, and the winner of that game will face the loser of game five at 5 p.m. The winner of that game will play the winner of game five for the championship on Friday.
The championship game is schedule for 12 p.m. on Friday, May 10. If necessary, a second game will be played immediately following the first game.
TICKETS
Admission to the 2019 CAA Softball Championship is $7 each day. All-tournament passes are available for $20 and includes all games each day. Tickets can be purchased by calling 540-568-3853 or online at jmutickets.com. Students from participating CAA institutions will be admitted at no charge with a valid student ID.
CAA AWARDS
The CAA postseason awards and all-conference teams will be announced on Tuesday, May 7 at 3 p.m. Info will be posted to drexeldragons.com, Drexel Softball's social media accounts and the CAA website and social media.
