Men's Soccer Falls at No. 20 James Madison, 3-1
9/28/2019 8:59:00 PM | Men's Soccer
HARRISONBURG, Va. - Michael Campbell became the second Dragon in as many games to net his first collegiate goal in order to keep the Drexel men's soccer team's goal-scoring streak alive, but it was not enough as they fell at No. 20 James Madison on Saturday night, 3-1.
Campbell's goal, which came in the 81st minute of play, was the first conceded by the Dukes in CAA action this year, and the first they had allowed in any game since Sept. 8, ending a four-game shutout streak. It gave Drexel at least one goal in 11 consecutive contests dating back to the end of last season, one game shy of its longest streak under head coach Doug Hess.
After a scoreless first half, James Madison wasted little time jumping on top in the second. Just 7:18 into the period, the Dukes broke the ice with a Melker Anshelm goal. It took just 26 seconds for James Madison to make it a 2-0 game, and another 3:59 for it to be a 3-0 contest. Manuel Ferriol, who is leading the CAA in scoring through the early going in 2019, had a pair of assists but was held without a goal for the first time since JMU's 2-0 win over Hofstra on Sept. 6.
Campbell, making his collegiate debut on Saturday night, took advantage of the opportunity with the goal with just under 10 minutes to play. He became the fifth Dragon this season to net his first collegiate tally.
The Dragons will now have a week off to train for their next opponent, another road CAA test at Elon next Saturday, Oct. 5. That game also kicks off at 7 p.m.
