Women's Tennis Continues Win Streak With Win Over UConn

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's tennis team now has a five-match winning streak after defeating UConn, 5-2. The Dragons push their record to 5-1, and UConn falls to 2-2.
The Dragons took the doubles point behind a victory from first-seeded Salma Ziouti and Šárka Richterová, who won their fifth-straight doubles match by a score of 6-1. Clinching the doubles point was the team of Ghita Benhadi and Cristina Corte González by a score of 6-4. With that win, Benhadi is two away from winning 100 total matches in her career.
In singles play, Richterová was first to finish her match. For the first time this season she competed in the second-seeded matchup. She took advantage of the opportunity and captured a 6-4, 6-3 victory. After dropping the No. 5 and No. 3 matches, fourth-seeded Tara Veluvolu finished her match with set scores of 6-1, 7-5 and preserved her perfect 4-0 record in match play. The clinching point came from the top-seeded flight featuring Ziouti, who shut the door on her opponent in three sets, 4-6, 7-5, 6-0.
González finished the sixth-seeded match by battling back after dropping the first set 6-3 and took the second and third sets by scores of 6-2, 7-6.
The Dragons will travel to Lehigh to face the Mountain Hawks on Sunday at 1 p.m.
