Women’s Lacrosse Defeats Villanova in Saturday Road Affair, 17-9

VILLANOVA, Pa. – The Drexel University women's lacrosse team (2-2) turned in a Saturday afternoon win over the Villanova University Wildcats (2-3) from Villanova Stadium by a final of 17-9.
HIGHLIGHTS
* With a 9-5 lead at halftime, the Dragons scored eight of the final 10 goals in the win including five-straight to take a commanding lead in the second half.
* Drexel took advantage of Villanova's four yellow cards, capitalizing on all of them.
* DU recorded five-goal stretches in each the first and second halves.
* Redshirt junior Lucy Schneidereith scored a game-high six goals on 12 shots. She leads the team with 16 goals on the year.
* Freshman Cara Moreau notched her first collegiate hat trick with a four-goal game including three in the second half. The freshman scored on all four of her shots. She also tied for a team-high three groundballs.
* Junior Karson Harris recorded a hat trick and added an assist for a four-point game. The junior won five draw controls and had one groundball and caused turnover.
* Freshman Corinne Bednarik scored two goals in the win and tied for a game-high two assists. The freshman also won four draw controls in addition to a caused turnover.
* Junior Colleen Grady recorded two goals and an assist.
* Sophomore Hayleigh Simpson won a game-high seven draw controls in the effort. She also had two groundballs and a caused turnover.
* Junior goalie Zoe Bennett (W, 2-2) earned her second victory of the season with seven saves across the full 60 minutes.
* Senior Jamie Schneidereith tied for a team-high three groundballs and won one draw control.
GAMEPLAY
First Half /
Villanova struck first on Saturday with a goal from Brittany Bruno, who finished a Wildcat-high four points. The Dragons then turned it on, scoring the next five goals to take a 5-1 lead with 12:28 to play in the half. Lucy Schneidereith had a hat trick before the midway point of the period. The Wildcats scored the next four of six while Lucy Schneidereith notched her fourth of the day with DU still leading, 7-5. Moreau and Harris scored in the final three minutes as Drexel took a 9-5 edge into the locker room.
Second Half /
Villanova scored the first two goals of the second half to cut the Dragons' advantage in half, 9-7. DU then took over control of the contest, scoring eight of the final 10 goals including three from Moreau in the second half. Lucy Schneidereith also tallied two more in the win. Drexel won by a 17-9 final.
BY THE NUMBERS
