HARRISONBURG, Va. – On a rainy Saturday night, the Drexel men's soccer team (7-7-1, 3-3-1) ended its regular-season road schedule with a hard-fought 1-0 loss against James Madison (11-4-1, 5-2-0) in Harrisonburg, Va.
James Madison scored its lone goal in the 72nd minute to take the 1-0 lead. Axel Ahlander buried a goal from 25 yards out while James Madison played a man down due to a red card issued eight minutes prior.
The Dragons played a defensively sound game despite the late goal. The Dragons kept the Dukes away from the net, only allowing four shots on target. While playing a physical game, the Dragons were disciplined and were cautious with fouls. James Madison was booked four times, including the red card that was issued in the 64th minute.
Drexel's hopes for a conference championship run are not squashed. Hofstra will need to defeat or tie UNCW next weekend, James Madison will have to defeat Northeastern and Elon will have to beat or tie William & Mary. But, for that to matter, Drexel will need to defeat Delaware. The Dragons will host the Blue Hens on Saturday, November 6, at 1 p.m.
