Women’s Lacrosse Begins 2021 with Road Win at Lehigh, 19-17

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Drexel University women's lacrosse team (1-0) started its 2021 season with a 19-17 nonconference road win against the Lehigh University Mountain Hawks (0-1) on Saturday afternoon in Bethlehem, Pa.
OVERVIEW
* Drexel held a 11-9 lead at halftime, never trailing in the opening period.
* Lehigh started the second half with a four-goal stretch to take a 13-11 advantage. The Dragons responded with a three-goal run to go back in front 14-13 with 20 minutes to play.
* DU lost the lead again after consecutive goals by the Mountain Hawks, making it 15-14 with under 15 minutes to play. Drexel then scored five of the next six goals to own a 19-16 edge in the final minutes before winning, 19-17.
HIGHLIGHTS
* Colleen Grady led the team with seven points in the win behind four goals and three assists.
* Karson Harris scored a team-best six goals for the first time of her career along with a game-high nine draw controls. Harris also scooped up two ground balls and caused one turnover.
* Corinne Bednarik recorded four goals on the day with six draw controls.
* Lucy Schneidereith also finished with four goals in the effort with four draw controls, two ground balls and one caused turnover.
* Jamie Schneidereith added a goal.
* Alex Wall tallied an assist with two ground balls and a caused turnover.
* Courtney Dietzel also notched an assist.
* Hayleigh Simpson led DU with two caused turnovers.
* Goalie Zoe Bennett (W, 1-0) picked up the victory with six saves.
* Lehigh's Sondra Dickey finished with a game-high eight goals and nine points.
BY THE NUMBERS
* Drexel scored 19 times on 25 shots, 23 of which were on target.
* DU led draw controls, 22-16, in a large part to Harris' nine.
