BALTIMORE, Md. - The Drexel women's lacrosse team's comeback bid came up short as the No. 16 Dragons fell to No. 18 Loyola, 17-12. Colleen Grady had an outstanding offensive day in the loss with eight points, but the Dragons five-game winning streak to start the season came to an end.
Lucy Schneidereith and Grady gave Drexel an early two-goal lead just two minutes into the game. After the teams exchanged goals, Loyola ratted off five straight goals to take the lead it would not relinquish. Grady and Courtney Dietzel countered with goals to cut the deficit to one, but Loyola answered with three goals of its own. Alex Wall stopped the run with an unassisted goal with a little more than a minute left in the first half. The Greyhounds added a late goal to take a 10-6 advantage to the half.
The Greyhounds started the second half with another three-goal run and take control of the contest at 13-6. Drexel was able to cut the lead to four just once as Loyola kept the Dragons at bay the rest of the contest.
Grady finished the day with five goals and eight assists. She now has 182 points in her career, which tied her for third all-time with Lee Mullray. Lucy Schneidereith and Dietzel each scored twice, while Karson Harris and Corinne Bednarik each had two points.
