Dragons Race to Big Lead and Defeat La Salle, 17-9

PHILADELPHIA - Drexel raced out to a 9-2 first-half lead and went on to defeat La Salle, 17-9, at Vidas Field on Saturday afternoon. The Dragons are now 6-1 as five Dragons had at least two goals. Lucy Schneidereith led the way with four goals and five points. La Salle fell to 2-3.
OVERVIEW
* Lucy Schneidereith got the Dragons on the board just 35 second into the game. La Salle was able to tie it less than a minute later. However, the Dragons answered with a 4-0 run in a span of just 2:01. Four different Dragons scored during the run.
* The Explorers snapped the run to cut it to 5-2 on an Allison Hunter goal but that was as close as La Salle would get the rest of the game.
* Drexel scored eight of the next nine goals and saw its lead swell to as many as 11 in the second half.
* The Dragons held a 9-3 lead at intermission despite being outshot over the first half.
* La Salle scored the final three goals to make the final score 17-9.
HIGHLIGHTS
* Corinne Bednarik, Karson Harris and Jamie Schneidereith each scored three goals.
* For Bednarik, it was her third hat trick of the year.
* Harris has had three or more goals in six of seven games this year and now has 23 in her career.
* Courtney Dietzel had her third multiple-goal game of the season.
* Zoe Bennett and Caroline Fritsch combined for 12 saves.
BY THE NUMBERS
* Despite the one-sided score, the Dragons were outshot in the game, 27-26.
* Drexel was solid on draw control, winning 19 of the 28 in the game.
* The two teams combined for 52 fouls.
* The Drexel defense held its opponent to under 10 goals for the third time this season.
