Daly Throws One-Hitter Against Delaware

Dragons Split Doubleheader
PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel softball team (20-8, 7-4 CAA) split a doubleheader against the Delaware Blue Hens (19-5, 9-4 CAA) on Friday afternoon. Brooklyn Daly and the Dragons held the Blue Hens to one hit and took game one, 9-0. In the second game, Delaware won, 4-2.
GAME ONE
Daly (7-1) threw a complete game, holding the Blue Hens to one hit and striking out four batters. The complete game was her fifth of the season.
Elena Woulfe went 2-for-4 with a double and a home run. The home run was the first of her career. Through 28 games, the senior has a .386 batting average.
Kristi DiMeo went 3-for-3 with a home run, four RBIs and scored two runs. DiMeo's home run was hit in the seventh inning and was the 10th of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Linda Rush got the Dragons started in the bottom of the first. The graduate student popped up in front of home plate, and the ball found its way to the ground and in fair territory. Rush turned the infield fly into a double.
Woulfe hit a solo home run to right field to give the Dragons a two-run lead in the bottom of the third. A few batters later, Megan Trivelpiece singled to left field and scored Rush. At the end of the third, the Dragons had a 3-0 lead.
With the bases loaded in the fifth inning, Hannah Walker doubled to left field and cleared the bases. The double gave Drexel a 6-0 lead.
DiMeo hit a three-run home run to left field to push the lead to nine in the bottom of the sixth.
With the Dragons up by nine, the game ended after six innings.
GAME TWO
Olivia Farris (2-4) started in the circle and pitched 3.1 innings. The freshman gave up three runs and allowed six hits.
Jessica Schable entered the game in relief and pitched 3.2 innings. She held Delaware to one run on two hits. Schable also fanned two batters.
Trivelpiece went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the effort.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trivelpiece got the Dragons on the board first in the bottom of the first. The left fielder hit a ball to short and beat out the throw. Scoring on the play was Woulfe. Following Trivelpiece, Reilly Jo Swanson hit a sacrifice fly to left field and scored Rush.
Delaware bounced back and scored a run in the top of the second to pull within one of the Dragons. The Blue Hens then took the lead in the fourth after they hit a home run and scored on a wild pitch. Delaware scored its insurance run in the top of the sixth inning.
WHAT'S NEXT
Drexel and Delaware will meet again on Saturday, April 24 at 4 p.m. for a rubber match. The Dragons will hold a ceremony where they will honor the seven seniors on the team, Rush, Woulfe, Swanson, Walker, Carly Bowen, Holly Bridgman, Taylor Kent and Emma Dryden.
