Dragons Defeat Northeastern 5-2 on Senior Day

PHILADELPHIA, Pa – The Drexel women's field hockey team improved to an even 4-4 (2-2) on the season with a big 5-2 win over conference opponent Northeastern on Friday afternoon.
The Dragons got down to business right from the start, scoring less than two minutes into the game. Freshman Eline Di Leva used the first opportunity she had at the goal, fighting past the Huskies goalie, Erin Savage, for a short netter on the right side with an assist from Chandler McFeeley.
Di Leva continued to pressure the Huskies defense, immediately storming the net on the opening ball, just missing wide. Her relentless effort continued to prove essential to the Dragons early offensive movement, opening the door for Avery Powell to net the next goal on a quick one, two pass.
Both teams battled to command the circle but the Dragons pressure continued to shine through. Drexel maintained a threat throughout the half, forcing three corners and outshooting the Huskies 8-5.
Northeastern returned from the half hungry for a score but Megan Hadfield was lights out for Drexel in net, holding the Huskies scoreless through the second. After untimely penalties, the Dragons found themselves in several man-down scenarios but the sophomore goalies three saves were enough to allow the offense to open the gap. Shannon Tringola got a stick on a rocket shot by McFeeley into the offensive zone, giving the Dragons a healthy 3-1 lead heading into the final 15 minutes.
To top off a well-rounded senior day, McFeeley posted a backhanded goal of her own in the fourth quarter with help from Di Leva. Despite a response from the Huskies offense in the final eight minutes, Tringola sealed the deal for the Drexel with a short corner re-direct on the left hip of Savage for her second score of the day.
Drexel will head on the road for its final two conference games of the year, starting with Delaware on Friday, Apr. 16 at 5 p.m.
