Dragons to Face Elon in First Round of CAA Championships

PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel softball team is set to travel to the campus of James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va., to participate in the 2021 CAA Softball Championships Presented by Primis. The Dragons will face the Elon Phoenix in the tournament's opening round on Wednesday, May 12, at 2 p.m.
After finishing 28-10 overall and 13-5 in conference play in the regular season, the Dragons clinched the North Division and the tournament's second seed. Elon finished 17-19 overall and 10-8 in the conference to finish in second in the South Division and the tournament's third seed.
Drexel's 28-10 (.737) record is the highest win percentage in program history. The closest Drexel softball team to have a win percentage that high was in 1991. That team finished 35-15 (.700) and won the East Conference Championship.
Linda Rush leads the team in multiple categories, including batting average (.482), runs scored (49), slugging percentage (.964), on-base percentage (.592) and home runs (14). Behind Rush, the Dragons have multiple threats. Kristi DiMeo leads the team in RBIs (52) and is tied with the most doubles on the team with 10. Elena Woulfe has primarily led off for the Dragons, and she has done it well. The senior is hitting .339 when in the lead-off spot and has scored 15 runs. Woulfe is tied with DiMeo for doubles and tied with Rush in triples with one.
Brooklyn Daly will be entering the tournament as one of the conference's best pitchers. The senior is 9-1 through 16 appearances. Her 2.52 ERA is currently ranked fourth in the CAA.
The last time the two teams met was in the 2019 CAA Championships. The Phoenix won the matchup 7-3 to advance to the championship series. Overall, Elon holds a 15-1 record over the Dragons.
The Dragons and Phoenix will meet at 2 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park on the campus of James Madison University. The winner of that game will move onto the semifinals. The loser will enter the loser's bracket and play again at 8 p.m. on Wednesday. The whole tournament can be seen on FloSports.
