STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Drexel men's soccer team was defeated by the Stony Brook Seawolves in the final regular season match of the 2022 campaign, 2-1 on Saturday evening.
The Dragons, despite dropping their final match, have already earned a berth in the CAA Championship tournament. It will be the third straight postseason berth for the program. The three consecutive postseason appearances is a first for Drexel men's soccer in the CAA era.
Stony Brook scored the first goal of the game in the 17th minute. However, Drexel countered in the 40th minute. Joshua Pulla tucked the ball past the diving Stony Brook keeper on a feed from Cesar Banacloy. The goal was Pulla's fourth of the season. The Seawolves added the winning strike in the 73rd minute.
Drexel, now the fifth seed, can plan its trip to North Carolina for the CAA Championships to face the fourth-seeded Northeastern Huskies. The only unknown that remains for the Dragons is which North Carolina school will host. The winner of the UNCW vs. Elon match tonight will decide who is the top-seed of the CAA Championship and will host Drexel and Northeastern.
