Drexel Rallies Behind Eight Goal Second Half But Falls Short to #13 Florida

PHILADELPHIA – Drexel powered back from a seven-goal deficit in the second half with eight unanswered goals but fell one short of victory over #13 Florida on Sunday morning at Vidas Field. The Dragons move to an even 4-4 overall before traveling west to San Diego this week.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter – Drexel 0, Florida 6
The Gators fired away offensively in the first quarter, commanding a 6-0 lead through the first 15.
Second Quarter – Drexel 1, Florida 8
Grady gave the Dragons their first score of the day on a man-up opportunity with an assist from Alex Wall. Florida scored a pair of goals in the final three minutes of the quarter to take a seven-goal lead into the half.
Third Quarter – Drexel 5, Florida 8
Drexel came back from the half with vengeance, sinking four consecutive goals while holding Florida scoreless. Harris and Bednarik kick started the Dragons run, each with back-to-back goals, giving DU the leverage they needed to take a lead.
Fourth Quarter – Drexel 9, Florida 10
The Dragons improved their scoring streak to seven as Schneidereith, Harris and Hayleigh Simpson each provided a goal, tying the game at eight. Schneidereith gave Drexel the advantage they needed with five minutes to play, sinking her second of the day. Drexel's defense dug in but Florida found two goals in the final minute to secure the win.

- Colleen Grady became Drexel's all-time leading points scorer with her solo goal against the Gators. Her 252 career points just surpasses the previous record (251) set by Emily Hoesch '07.
- Zoe Bennett posted her fourth appearance this season with double digit saves, stopping 12 against a powerful Gators offense.
- Despite trailing at the half, the Dragons and the Gators held similar shot values, marked at 26 and 27 shots respectively with Florida holding the shots on goal advantage 22-17.
- The Dragons forced several key opportunities on the clear, leading the Gators to four failed clear attempts while completing 14-of-16 on the offensive end.
- Drexel was unstoppable in the circle in the second half, controlling nine of 12 draws. The Dragons led the Gators 14-9 on the draw through four quarters.
- Karson Harris led the Dragons with her fourth hat-trick performance of the year. The grad midfielder also picked up three draw controls, moving her past the 300 career draw controls mark.
- Maura Cissel tallied her second highest draw control total against the Gators, grabbing a team-high six at the draw.
- Corinne Bednarik and Lucy Schneidereith each added a pair of goals while picking up two ground balls and forcing a caused turnover. Bednarik also added one of only two total assists by the Dragons.
