Dragons Drop 10-4 Matchup with #9 Denver

SAN DIEGO, Cali. – The Dragons picked up a tough loss to top-10 opponent Denver on Friday afternoon, 10-4. With the loss, Drexel sits at an even 5-5 against non-conference opponents heading into its first CAA matchup of the year against Delaware.
BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
First Quarter – Drexel 2, Denver 1
The Pioneers scored in the opening minute of the game and held a 1-0 advantage for most of the first quarter. Following a big save by Bennett on the defensive end, Bednarik put the Dragons on the board with an unassisted goal at the 4:33 mark. Both teams battled for an advantage for the remainder of the period, but Jarema put the Dragons on top with a free position goal with two seconds remaining.
Second Quarter – Drexel 2, Denver 4
Denver sank three unanswered goals in the second quarter to regain a lead heading into the half.
Third Quarter – Drexel 3, Denver 6
The Pioneers returned from the half with a pair of goals, improving their lead to four. With 1:12 on the clock, Grady used a timely foul by Denver as a catalyst for the Dragons third goal of the game on an assist from Bednarik.
Fourth Quarter – Drexel 4, Denver 10
Denver converted off the draw to open the fourth, but Harris answered back with her first goal of the game on a free position effort, moving the Dragons back within three. The Pioneers added three more goals and held Drexel scoreless for the remainder of the quarter, securing a 10-4 victory.
