PHILADELPHIA – Delaware's Mike Robinson picked up a loose ball in front of the Drexel net and fired home the game-winner with just 10 seconds left to give the Blue Hens a 16-15 win on Saturday afternoon. The Dragons (6-6, 2-2 CAA) trailed by five late in the third quarter and came back to tie it before the Hens (7-6, 2-2) won in the closing seconds. It was Senior Day at Vidas Field where the Dragons recognized their 11 graduating seniors.
The Blue Hens scored the first three goals of the game and never trailed in the contest. Tye Kurtz scored four of his game-high eight goals in the first quarter as the Hens led 6-2 before Ryan Genord scored in the final seconds for Drexel. The Blue Hens extended the lead to 10-6 by halftime. Drexel's Aidan Coll kept the Dragons close with three goals in the first half.
The teams each scored three times in the third as Delaware appeared to be in control heading into the final 15 minutes. The teams traded goals in the first few minutes as the lead remained at four. With just under 10 minutes to go, Drexel started its run. Jack Mulcahy, who opened the fourth quarter scoring, added three more as part of a 5-1 Drexel run. Mulcahy scored twice before Coll netted his fifth of the game, cutting the Delaware lead to 14-13. Kurtz stopped the momentum with a score at the 4:15 mark, but Drexel once again answered. Genord set up Mulcahy for his fourth goal of the period and then with just 1:37 to play, Mulcahy found Max Semple, who evened the score at 15-15. Delaware won the ensuing face-off and held for a shot in the closing seconds. It looked as though the Dragons came up with a stop, but they couldn't control the loose ball. Robinson was able to corral it and Delaware headed home with the win.
Mulcahy finished the day with four goals and two assists. Coll had five goals in his final regular season game at Vidas Field, while Genord had two goals and three assists. Logan Premtaj won 15 of his 27 draws. Matt Kilkeary came up with nine saves in the cage, including a number of big saves in the second half to keep Drexel at bay.
The Dragons will close the regular season on Friday at UMass. Drexel will clinch a spot in the Colonial Athletics Association Championships with a win. If UMass wins, the Dragons will need help to earn a playoff spot. Drexel is tied with Fairfield, Delaware and UMass at 2-2, one game behind Towson.
