Dragons and UMass Close the Regular Season on Friday in Amherst

AMHERST, Mass. - Drexel and UMass will meet on Friday with a playoff spot on the line. The winner of the contest earns a berth in the upcoming Colonial Athletic Association Championships, while the loser will need help to keep its playoff hopes alive. Face-off is set for 6 p.m. and the game can be seen live on LSN.
THE SERIES
UMass leads the all-time series, 8-7. The teams met three times last year. UMass won the first meeting, 13-7, in Amherst. The Dragons won the rematch, 12-11, as Sean Donnelly had six assists and eight points. In the CAA's, Drexel defeated the Minutemen, 13-8, as Donnelly had five goals and seven points, while Aidan Coll scored four times.
ABOUT DREXEL
Drexel enters play with a 6-6 record and a 2-2 mark after a heartbreaking one-goal loss to Delaware last Saturday. The Blue Hens scored with 9.7 seconds left to end Drexel's comeback bid. Jack Mulcahy had four goals and six points to lead Drexel, while Aidan Coll (five goals) and Ryan Genord (two goals) each finished the day with five points.
The Dragons continue to have a well-balanced offense. Five players have between 36 and 42 points. Mulcahy lead the way with 24 assists and 42 points. Sean Donnelly is second on the team 39 points. He has 21 goals. Max Semple leads the team with 33 goals and has 38 points. Ryan Genord is tied with Semple in points after his five-point game on Senior Day. Aidan Coll, who will also be graduating, now has 27 goals.
If the Dragons win they will earn a bid to the CAA Championships which will be held at Drexel. If UMass wins, Drexel will need help on Saturday. The Dragons will need Delaware to win against Fairfield. Drexel would then have the tiebreaker head-to-head with Fairfield.
ABOUT UMASS
The Minutemen defeated Hofstra Saturday to improve to 7-5 overall and 2-2 in the CAA. Three different players had hat tricks as the Minutemen snapped a two-game losing streak. Kevin Tobin had five points including three goals. Logan Liljeberg cored three times and added and assist, while Aidan Kaminska had a career-high three goals.
If UMass loses to Drexel, the Minutemen will need Fairfield to beat Delaware on Saturday to get a berth to the postseason.
WHAT'S NEXT
The CAA Championships begin on Thursday afternoon at Vidas Field in Philadelphia. There will be two semifinal games beginning at 4 p.m. The title game will be played on Saturday at Vidas Field. The teams and seeds will be announced on Saturday night.
