Dragons Split Doubleheader against Rider

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Drexel softball team split a doubleheader against Rider on Wednesday, April 6. The Dragons (18-9) fell to the Broncs (18-10) in the first game, 2-1. In the second game, Drexel defeated Rider, 3-0.
GAME ONE
Lindsay Nelson (4-4) went six innings, holding Rider to one earned run on eight hits. Nelson struck five batters out in the effort.
Jackie Masone went 2-for-3 in game one with an RBI and a walk. The freshman drove in the Dragons' lone run in the third with a single up the middle.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the third inning, Masone hit an RBI single up the middle to score Sarah Clinton from second.
The Broncs hit an RBI single to right center and tied the game in the fourth inning. Later, in the sixth inning, Rider took the lead with a bunt.
GAME TWO
Brooklyn Daly (9-2) started the second game in the circle and went the full game, holding the Broncs to no runs on six hits.
Kristi DiMeo followed up her performance in the first game with a 2-for-3 game. On the defensive side, DiMeo recorded 10 put outs and is now one short of the program record. Eileen Rogers '90 recorded 1,392 put outs in her career as a Dragon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Drexel scored its first run of the game in the third inning of the second game. Ashley Errico hit an RBI double to left field and scored Masone.
The Dragons scored their second and third runs of the game in the fifth inning. Ameryn Humble hit an RBI single to left field and scored Grace Abbonizio. Later, Alexis Rosenberry hit a sacrifice fly to center field and scored Errico.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Dragons return to conference play by visiting Newark, Del. to face the Delaware Blue Hens in a three-game series beginning on Saturday, April 10. Drexel and Delaware will play a doubleheader on Saturday, starting at noon. On Sunday, the two teams will meet at 1 p.m. for the series finale.
