Dragons Fall Short 11-7, Against Towson in the CAA Opener

TOWSON, Md. - Corinne Bednarik scored a pair of goals and five other players added tallies, but the Dragons fell short in a 11-7 setback to Towson in their CAA opener on Saturday evening. The tilt was a rematch of last season's conference championship which sent Drexel to the NCAA Tournament. DU's record stands at 5-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play following today's game.

Defenders Peighton Bement and Belle McHugh each caused two turnovers.

Jenika Cuocco found 11 saves in the contest which kept her CAA-leading save percentage at 50% on the season.

On defense, Camryn Ryan led the unit with four ground balls.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Hayleigh Simpson put the Dragons on the board first with a free-position score in the third minute. After two goals by the Tigers, Bednarik tied the contest at two headed into the second frame.

At the start of the second quarter, Towson found the back of the net twice. Saundra Godshall answered back with a Dragons eight-meter tally to cut TU's deficit to one with four minutes until the half. At the end of the first two periods, the Tigers held a 6-3 lead.

Grace Harding was successful on a free-position shot early into the second half. Towson held a six goal advantage into the final period.

Lindsey Dean, Alex Wall and Bednarik tried to start a Dragons' rally in the final quarter of regulation as they each fired shots past the Tigers goalkeeper. The TU advantage was cut to 10-7 with ten minutes left.
UP NEXT
The Dragons return to Vidas Field for a Saturday evening matchup on March 25 with the William & Mary Tribe. The tilt will also be is Diabetes Awareness Night. Opening draw is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
