Drexel Slighted in Doubleheader Against Stony Brook

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel softball team was defeated by the Stony Brook Seawolves in a pair of games on Sunday at the Drexel Softball Field. The Dragons fell in game one, 4-0, and then was defeated in game two, 9-4.
GAME ONE
Lindsay Nelson (2-8) pitched game one and went the whole way, allowing four runs on six hits.
Five separate Dragons earned a hit in the first game of the double header. Izzy Alamillo, Ameryn Humble, Ashley Errico, Mia Garza and Savaanah Garcia all reached base safely.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The game was locked until the fourth when a ball caught just a little too much of the plate. The Stony Brook batter hit a three-run home run to center field to give the Sea Wolves the lead. In the sixth, Stony Brook added on with a solo home run to left field.
GAME TWO
Jessica Schable (3-7) started game two in the circle and went five innings. Holly Spletzer entered the game in relief and finished out the game.
Lana Mooney went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Lily Meuninck went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, Devyn Demchak went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Stony Brook continued to swing a hot bat, the team hit a solo home run in the second inning and also used a defensive mishap by Drexel to tack on another run. In the fifth, Stony Brook scored four runs to push the lead to 6-0.
In the fifth, Drexel chipped away at the lead. Mooney singled to right field and scored Demchak. In the sixth inning, Drexel scored once more Demchak singled to center field and scored Garza.
Stony Brook tacked on three insurance runs in the seventh inning and went into the bottom of the seventh inning with a 9-3 lead.
Needing six runs, the Dragons loaded the bases and scored two runs. Meuninck hit a single to left center and scored Errico and Mooney.
WHAT'S NEXT
Drexel will play a nonconference doubleheader against Fordham on Wednesday, March 29 at 1 p.m. in Bronx, N.Y.
