PHILADELPHIA – A goal with 42 seconds left in the second half by Omar Jallow secured a 1-1 draw with William & Mary on Saturday afternoon at Vidas Field.
Prior to the match, Drexel held a ceremony for its graduating seniors, recognizing Alessandro Capogna, Giancarlo Vaccaro, Dominick Bachstein, Carles Aliberch, Stephen Appiah, Patrick Short and Ori Arzi.
The Dragons out shot the Tribe, 21-6, placing seven on target. Two of William & Mary's shots were on target.
After the first 45 minutes of play, Drexel had blanked William & Mary in shots, 8-0. Drexel created a few opportunities but William & Mary's keeper, Ryan Eapen, found ways to stifle each chance.
The Tribe finally broke through in the 64th minute, capitalizing on miscue by the Dragons on top of their penalty box. Up by a goal, William & Mary settled in defensively but started to crack towards the end of the half.
The Dragons took 13 shots in the second half and found the back of the net in the 90th minute of play. With 42 seconds remaining, a free kick by Patrick Short was perfectly placed to the penalty strike and found a diving Jallow who buried the shot off his head to the top-right of the net. The goal is Jallow's second of the season. The assist is Short's ninth of the campaign.
With two conference matches remaining, Drexel is in fourth place with 10 points. Elon, Hofstra and Monmouth sit atop the conference with 12 points each. Elon and Monmouth are set to face each other on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
Drexel travels to Newark, N.J. to face NJIT on Tuesday, October 22. Action is slated for 6 p.m.
