
Duffy and Castorina Score as Drexel Downs Hampton, 2-1

NORFOLK, Va. - Elise Duffy and Jess Castorina each scored as Drexel (4-8-4) earned their first road win of the season over Hampton (3-13-1), 2-1.
The Dragons scored the first goal of the match in the 18th minute. After a foul from the Pirates, Duffy put the penalty kick away past the diving goalie for her third goal of the season.
Castorina collected her second tally of the year in the closing minutes of the first half. Mackenzie McCready earned the first assist of her freshman campaign, dishing the pass to Castorina just in front of the net. The Sewell, New Jersey native hit the bottom of the net with the left boot to add to the Drexel lead, 2-0.
Hampton was able to record their first goal in conference play in the 56th minute. The Dragons allowed an own goal after a deflection off Hampton's Maddie Edozie.
Sammy Widnick made her sixth start of the season at goalkeeper, collecting three saves. Zara Wickert made her debut at the Division 1 level in relief of Widnick. The Chelmsford, England native earned also earned her first career save as a Dragon.
Drexel closes out the 2024 season as DU celebrates Senior Day against Stony Brook on Sunday, October 27. Action from Vidas will kick off at 2 p.m.
