Drexel Falls Short to No. 15 Stony Brook, 18-11

PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel women's lacrosse team fell to No. 15 Stony Brook Sunday afternoon at Vidas Field, 18-11. Molly Weygand and Corinne Bednarik each tallied three times as Jenika Cuocco collected 13 saves. Stony Brook's Ellie Masera racked up seven goals and added four assists as eight different Seawolves scored.
The Dragons now fall to 10-4 and 5-1 in the CAA as Stony Brook improves to 13-2 and stays a perfect 7-0 in the conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dragons kicked things off with a goal from Alex Wall, who scored just in front of the crease from the dish from Bednarik to take the early lead. The Seawolves answered just 30 seconds later off a tally from Kailyn Hart, scoring her 50th goal on the year to make it even at one.
Drexel rebounded thanks to a free-position goal from Allison Drake to regain the lead. Anna Maria Gragnani followed with another, cutting right in front of the goalie to extend the lead to two. Stony Brook's Alex Finn hit the back of the net at the 3:56 mark to cut the deficit to one. Bednarik scored for the first time in the game off the free-position shot, and Masera added one for the Seawolves to give Drexel the 4-3 at the end of the first.
After the Dragons started the second quarter off hot with a free position goal from Weygand, the Seawolves went on to score six straight goals, including two from Marera in the frame to go into the half up 9-5.
Stony Brook opened the half with their seventh straight goal. Bea Buckley was finally able to break the nearly 18 minute scoring streak at the 9:27 mark, firing past the goalie with Allison Drake getting the assist. Stony Brook quickly came back to add two more goals in under a minute to make it 12-6.
The Dragons found their footing in the closing minutes of the third quarter. Drexel scored three goals in under two minutes, with two coming from Bednarik and another from Maddie Fowler to cut the lead down to 12-9. Kailyn Hart was able to stop the momentum for Drexel with a late goal to end the third up 13-9.
Weygand reached the back of the net for the second time in the contest before the Seawolves went on another streak, tallying four straight. Weygand scored for the final time before Stony Brook added another to give the Seawolves the win 18-11.

Drexel concludes the regular season on the road at William & Mary and Hofstra on Saturday, April 20 and Saturday, April 27.
