Three Dragons Collect Hat Tricks as Drexel Tops William & Mary, 16-6

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Three Dragons scored hat tricks as Drexel rolled past William & Mary Saturday afternoon, 16-6. Corinne Bednarik, Allison Drake and Alex Wall each added three goals as nine different Dragons scored. With the win, DU improves to 11-4 and 6-1 in the CAA.
BY THE NUMBERS
The Dragons opened the quarter with the first goal of the game. Allison Drake caused a William & Mary turnover that freshman Bea Buckley was able to take for a goal, thanks to the dish from Bednarik. Anna Maria Gragnani quickly followed with a goal of her own to extend the lead to two.
Gragnani tallied for the second straight time in front of the crease to add to the lead. Bednarik recorded her first goal of the contest, bouncing it past the goalie for the Dragons fourth goal of the frame.
Drexel's offense stayed hot in the second quarter. Alex Wall scored off the pick from Bednarik to tally for the fifth straight game. After Bednarik converted a free-position shot into a goal, Ellie Wall joined her sister in the scoring column, firing into the cage off a free-position shot to make it 7-0 Drexel. Alex Wall, Molly Weygand and Allison Drake each later scored as DU kept the Tribe scoreless in the half, 10-0.
Allison Drake opened the third with her second goal of the game, charging to the net to reach the back of the cage. William & Mary finally got on the board with goals from Sydney Witwer and Serena Jacobs to cut into the lead 11-2. Bednarik helped DU respond with a tally of her own. The fifth year raced around the net and wrapped a shot around the Tribe defender to score her 50th goal of the season.
William & Mary found some momentum near the end of the third quarter, as the Tribe scored three straight goals from Ainsley Huizenga, Meg Baxter and Maresa Moyer. The third coming just 20 seconds into the fourth frame. Drexel was able to stop the run, as Drexel scored four of the last five goals to close the game. Alex Wall, Caroline Senich, Kate Quinn and Drake each tallied as the Dragons took the 16-6 win.
