The Dragons Defeat Hofstra, 11-10 in the Regular Season Finale

DU Earns the No. 2 Seed in the CAA Championships
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - Bea Buckley scored a free position goal with under four minutes remaining to lead the Dragons past the Pride in a thriller, 11-10, on Saturday afternoon in New York. Alex Wall, Corinne Bednarik, Allison Drake, Buckley, and Kate Marano each recorded a goal in the victory. Drexel closes the regular season at 12-4 and 7-1 in conference play headed into the playoffs. This is Drexel's third consecutive season with 12 victories.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Cuocco started strong for DU as she saved the first Hofstra shot of the day and Alex Wall responded with her 19th goal of the season at 13:15. Six minutes later, Kate Marano found Wall in front of the goalkeeper for her second of the day. The Pride responded with their first tally at 6:13 but Corinne Bednarik fired back less than a minute after with her 51st goal of the season. After a Drexel yellow card, Hofstra scored with 31 seconds left in the opening frame as DU held an one-goal advantage into the second quarter.
The Pride quickly collected the first score of the second frame at 14:12 to tie the contest at three. The Dragons stormed back as they went on a three-goal run with scores from Bednarik and Buckley followed by a goal from Allison Drake who dodged three low defenders in front of the crease for her 34th tally of 2024. Hofstra stormed back with three goals in the final 3:15 of the half as the score was knotted at six at the half.
Kerry Walser scored for HU for its first advantage of the game, 7-6 at 10:59 in the third quarter. Soon after, Bednarik found Marano storming up the eight to tie the contest back at seven. Two minutes later, the roles were reversed as Marano sent a dart to Bednarik to put the Dragons back in front, 8-7 with 8:45 left. The fifth-year senior extended the lead for Drexel with her 53rd goal of the season and recorded her 14th game with at least three tallies. Both teams were shut out the rest of the quarter as the score stood at 9-7 with 15 minutes remaining.
After a yellow card on Hofstra at 10:09, Bednarik connected a pass to fellow captain, Alex Wall to extend the Drexel lead to three. The Pride ended the Dragons' 4-0 run with three unanswered goals to even the game at 10 with 5:50 to go. Buckley was awarded a free position with 3:38 and the freshman stepped up with her 12th goal of the season to give Drexel an 11-10 lead. The defense held HU to one shot in the final minutes of play.
