Dragons Slighted by Stony Brook in Extra Innings, 7-6

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Drexel softball team was defeated by the Stony Brook Seawolves, 7-6 in extra innings on Sunday afternoon.
Lindsay Nelson started the game in the circle and pitched four innings, conceding six runs on eight hits. Allison Hoppe (4-9) entered the game in relief and went 4.2 innings, holding Stony Brook to one run on four hits.
In the first inning, Drexel received a lead-off triple by Grace Abbonizio and then scored on a ground out by Mia Garza.
The Seawolves then went on to score six unanswered runs in the third and fourth innings. The lead did not hold for long as Kalea Calugay hit a grand slam to left field to pull Drexel within one. In the sixth inning, Annabelle Smink hit a single to left field and scored Ashley Errico, the game-tying run, to force extra innings.
Stony Brook scored a game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth to defeat Drexel, 7-6.
The Dragons finish their nine-game road stretch on Wednesday, April 23. The team travels to South Orange, N.J. to play Seton Hall in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
