Nine Dragons Score as Drexel Defeats Monmouth on Senior Day, 17-7

PHILADELPHIA - Nine different Dragons scored as the Drexel women's lacrosse team was victorious over Monmouth on Senior Day, 17-7. Jenika Cuocco held things down in cage for Drexel, collecting 15 saves. Allison Drake scored four times, with Corinne Bednarik and Ellie Wall tallying three times. DU improves to 9-3 on the year and 4-0 in the CAA while the Hawks drop to 5-7 and 1-4 in the CAA.
BY THE NUMBERS
Drexel got on the board first thanks to Bea Buckley, scoring in front of the crease off the assist from Kate Marano. Ellie Wall followed to score two straight goals to put the Dragons up 3-0.
Monmouth got on the scoreboard after a free-position goal from Mya Brock. The Dragons respond with a free-position goal of their own to extend the lead back to three. Maddie Fowler ended the first quarter for DU with another free-position tally to make it 5-1 Drexel.
After the Hawks opened the second with an early goal from Caroline Brennan, the Dragons went on to score six straight goals. Bednarik hit the back of the net twice, as Drake, Ellie Wall and Anna Maria Gragnani each added one to take Drexel to the half up 11-2.
Monmouth opened the third quarter hot with three straight goals. The Dragons did not score in the quarter until the 2:22 mark, courtesy of a goal from Alex Wall. The senior dashed by the defender and ripped the bottom of the net to add to the lead 12-5. Bednarik closed out the period with another tally to make it 13-5 Drexel.
The Hawks opened the quarter once again scoring first, but the Dragons quickly answered with a goal from Buckley. Monmouth added another before Drexel finished the game scoring three straight goals to give DU the win 17-7.
UP NEXT
The Dragons head back on the road to take on Towson on Friday, April 12. Opening draw is set for 4 pm. Drexel returns home for the season finale at Vidas Field to battle No. 15 Stony Brook on Sunday, April 14 at 12 p.m. Sunday's game will be youth day with autographs following the CAA contest.
