Dragons Upended on Second Day of Liberty Invitational

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Drexel softball team was defeated in a pair of games on the second day of the Liberty Invitational. In game one, Drexel fell to the Georgetown Hoyas, 16-4. In the afternoon matchup, the Dragons were defeated, 8-0.

GAME ONE
Natalie Alldred started the first game in the circle but was only able to record an out before Violet Marta entered the game in relief.

Eight of the 10 Dragons who appeared in the first game picked up a hit against the Hoyas. Lily Meuninck hit an RBI single and a sacrifice fly, while Zoe Krizan hit a bases-clearing triple and picked up two RBIs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hoyas scored six unanswered runs in the first and second innings. In the fourth inning, Meuninck hit a single down the left field line and scored Lana Mooney on the play.

An inning later, Krizan laced a triple down the right field line and scored Kelsie Peters and Annabelle Smink on the play, trimming the deficit to just three.

The Hoyas pieced together a 10-run inning in the seventh to take a 16-3 lead. In the seventh inning, Meuninck hit a sacrifice fly and scored Kylah Reading.

GAME TWO
Madison Taylor began game two in the circle and pitched 1.1 innings. Violet Marta pitched 3.0 innings in relief and held App State to two hits and just two runs.

Reading recorded Drexel's only hit in game two, hitting a triple in the top of the fourth inning.

UP NEXT
Drexel completes the Liberty Invitational on Sunday morning against a familiar opponent. The Dragons compete against the Lehigh Mountain Hawks at 10 a.m.
