Dragons Fall Short to Lehigh on Day Three of Liberty Invitational

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Drexel softball team was upended by the Lehigh Mountain Hawks on the final day of the Liberty Invitational on Sunday morning, 10-8. The Dragons managed to score four runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull within one of Lehigh, but the Mountain Hawks scored in the top of the seventh to widen their gap again.

Madison Taylor pitched four innings in the effort. Sidney Toukonen entered the game in relief and finished the game, pitching three innings, holding Lehigh to four hits and just one run.

Lana Mooney finished the game going 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. The second basemen hit a triple in the bottom of the sixth.

Zoe Krizan went 1-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and a run scored. Macie Bergmann finishes off the list of Dragons who checked into the game with an extra base hit. The freshman hit a double to right center in the bottom of the first to score both Kylah Reading and Ariana Castillo.

Lehigh created separation during the game after scoring four in the first inning, two in each the third and fourth, then one in the fifth and seventh inning.

Drexel had two four-run innings. The Dragons evened the score in the bottom of the first and made a push for the lead in the bottom of the sixth.

Drexel makes its home debut at the Drexel softball field on Friday, March 7. The Dragons welcome the Delaware Blue Hens to Philadelphia for the last time as conference rivals in a three-game series. The first is slated for March 7 at 3 p.m., followed by a game on Saturday at 3 p.m. and a game on Sunday at 3 p.m.
