Softball Upended in Extra Inning Game Against Hampton, 14-10

Violet Marta began the game in the circle for Drexel and pitched seven innings, allowing six runs on 13 hits. Madison Taylor entered the game in relief in the eighth inning and pitched two hits, allowing six runs, though only two were earned. Sidney Toukonen finished the 10th inning, allowing two runs.
Zoe Krizan went 4-for-5 in the second game of the series. The freshman hit a double and a home run, scoring two runs and picking up three RBIs. Violet Marta finished 3-for-6 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored as well.
Izzy Alamillo capped off her day with a 2-for-4 line. The senior scored two runs scored and tallied an RBI. Alamillo was active on the base paths, swiping three bags.
The Pirates started the game on top with a four-run first inning. A single through the left side scored Kylee Quinn and set Hampton up for a three-run home run to take the four-run advantage.
In the second inning, Drexel edged into the lead. Kylah Reading hit a triple to right field and scored Alamillo. Later in the inning, Reading scored on a wild pitch to cut the deficit in half.
The Dragons then took the lead in the sixth inning. Alamillo hit an RBI single that got through the infield. Marta scored on the play. Drexel tied the game on a Annabelle Smink single through the left side, scoring Krizan from third. Reading then picked up another RBI on a sacrifice fly to right field to give Drexel a 5-4 lead. Devyn Demchak finished Drexel's rally, singling up the middle and scoring Smink.
The game was quiet until the seventh inning. Down by two, Hampton managed to score two runs on a pair of singles.
Hampton struck for four runs in the ninth inning, a single up the middle scored one run and saw another out at the plate, but after conferring the umpires reversed the call and ruled interference on Drexel's shortstop, causing the thrown out runner awarded third. The Pirates went on to score three more runs to take a 10-6 lead.
In the bottom of the ninth, Drexel rallied to score four as well. The rally started with a Kelsie Peters single to left field, scoring Kalea Calugay. With runners on first and second, Krizan hit a home run to center field to tie the game at 10.
In the top of the tenth, Hampton hit a two-run home run, then followed it with a double to right center to add another two runs, to total four more runs in the inning.
Drexel and Hampton return to the Drexel Softball Field on Sunday to play the rubber match between the two teams. First pitch is slated for noon.
