Dragons Defeated by Charleston, 8-0

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – The Drexel softball team was defeated, 8-0, by the Charleston Cougars on Sunday afternoon in Mount Pleasant, S.C.
Violet Marta started in the circle for Drexel and went 1.1 innings, allowing three earned runs and seven runs in total. Madison Taylor entered the game in relief and tossed four innings, holding Charleston to just four hits and only one run scored.
Drexel picked up four hits on the day. Mia Garza checked in with a pair of singles in her 2-for-3 day. Zoe Krizan and Macie Bergmann each hit a single.
Charleston scored three runs in the first inning. A pair of singles brought two runs in to score, while a ground out scored the third run.
In the second inning, the Cougars scored four more runs to push their lead to seven. A double steal scored the first run of the inning. A pair of doubles added two more runs and Charleston completed its scoring run by way of another double steal.
In the bottom of the sixth, Charleston scored the eighth run and ended the game after the Cougars loaded the bases with no outs. The Cougars hit a hard ball to second base and were able to cross the plate to tally the game-ending run.
Drexel returns to Philadelphia to host a Philadelphia rival in Saint Joseph's on Wednesday, April 2. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
