TOWSON, Md. – The Drexel softball team was defeated 4-3 in the series finale against Towson on Sunday afternoon.
Madison Taylor started in the circle for Drexel and pitched six innings, holding Towson to seven hits and just four runs. Taylor also struck a pair of batters out.
The Dragons picked up 10 hits on Sunday afternoon. Three Dragons pieced together multi-hit games. Izzy Alamillo hit a double, going 2-for-3. Mia Garza went 2-for-4 and played a part in all three Drexel runs. Devyn Demchak went 2-for-4 in the series finale.
Garza hit a single in the top of the seventh inning that scored the tying run to force a bottom of the seventh. The hit was Garza's 100th hit in her career.
Towson opened the game scoring three runs in the first inning. It wasn't until the fourth inning that Drexel would trim the deficit to two runs.
In the top of the seventh, the Dragons loaded the bases and pulled through with a single off of the Towson pitcher by Garza. Since the ball bounced into the outfield, it allowed Drexel score the tying run.
In the bottom of the seventh, Towson reached base on three straight plays to load the bases. On the fourth at bat, a ball hit to shortstop drew a play at the plate, however Towson beat the throw and scored the winning run.
Drexel returns to the Drexel Softball Field on Thursday, May 1. The Dragons host the Stony Brook Seawolves to a three-game series on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. First pitch on Thursday is slated for 3 p.m.
