Dragons Fall in Series-Opener to Stony Brook

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel softball team was defeated by the Stony Brook Seawolves, 14-0, on Thursday afternoon at the Drexel Softball Field.
Madison Taylor started in the circle for Drexel and pitched 1.2 innings and struck out one batter. Sidney Toukonen entered in relief and finished the game, pitching 3.1 inning and fanning two batters.
The Dragons picked up three hits in Thursday's series opener against the Seawolves. Izzy Alamillo led the game off with a hit before the Drexel bats fell quiet until the bottom of the fourth inning when Lily Meuninck laced a double down the right field line. In the bottom of the fifth, Lana Mooney singled to left field to push Drexel's hit total to three.
SBU scored two runs in the first inning to take its initial lead. In the second inning, the Seawolves tacked on eight insurance runs to extend the lead to 10. The visitors scored three in the third and one in the fourth to finish the game ahead by 14.
The Dragons return to the Drexel Softball Field on Friday to face the Seawolves in game two of the series. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
