PHILADELPHIA — The Drexel women's lacrosse team rolled over Wagner Wednesday night in Philadelphia, 16-3. It was the Dragons largest margin of victory and fewest goals allowed since Drexel defeated the Seahawks last season by the same score. Kate Quinn led the way for DU in scoring with four goals as Drexel improved to 2-0 on the season.
The Dragons jumped out to an early 2–0 lead as Katherine Senich and Kate Quinn found the back of the net in the opening two minutes. Wagner answered on a free-position opportunity following a Drexel penalty to cut into the deficit. Drexel closed the half on a 4–1 run, highlighted by Elena Bontatibus' first goal as a Dragon.
Drexel held the Seahawks scoreless in the second and third quarter, scoring eight consecutive goals. Drexel collected three goals in the second quarter, as Mary Claire Heubeck scored a pair.
Five different Dragons found the back of the net in the third quarter, as nine different players recorded goals in the contest. Bea Buckley opened the scoring off a feed from Ellie Wall. Annie Madden followed up her record-breaking freshman debut by beating the goalkeeper while Drexel was a player down. Nearly 30 seconds later, graduate student Karli Dougherty notched the second goal of her career. Amelia Bentley closed the quarter with a pair of tallies, with Maddie Kane recording the first assist of her career.
Wagner snapped the scoreless drought to open the fourth quarter, scoring its first goal in 43 minutes. Teagan Quinn and Bontatibus answered to close out the contest and seal the 16–3 victory.
