Dragons Wrap up Day to at UWG Opening Weekend

CARROLLTON, Ga. – Drexel softball split its doubleheader at the West Georgia Opening Weekend on Saturday. The Dragons opened the day with a 10–5 win over Bellarmine before falling to Austin Peay, 10–3, in the afternoon.
How It Happened – Game One
Drexel struck first in the opening inning. A leadoff walk and a double put runners in scoring position, and the Dragons pushed across the game's first run to take a 1–0 lead.
Bellarmine answered in the second to even the score, but Drexel responded in the third. The Dragons plated three runs in the inning, highlighted by a two-run home run, to move in front 4–2.
Drexel added to the margin in the fourth with a four-run frame. The Dragons combined extra-base hits with timely execution to extend the lead to 8–3. Bellarmine cut into the deficit with two runs in the fifth, but Drexel answered with two more runs in the sixth to put the game out of reach.
The Dragons held Bellarmine scoreless over the final two innings to close out the 10–5 victory.
How It Happened – Game Two
Austin Peay opened the scoring in the top of the first with a two-run home run to take an early 2–0 lead. The Governors added a run in the second and another in the third to extend the advantage.
Austin Peay tacked on an unearned run in the third to make it 4–0, then broke the game open with a three-run sixth inning. The Governors added three more runs in the seventh to push the lead to 10–0.
Drexel got on the board in the bottom of the sixth. After a pinch-hit single and a stolen base, the Dragons scored on an RBI single to make it 10–1. Drexel added two more runs in the seventh, capitalizing on an error and an RBI groundout, but the comeback effort fell short.
By the Numbers
Drexel scored 13 runs on 20 hits across the doubleheader.
Drexel hit three home runs in the opener against Bellarmine.
Kylah Reading went 5-for-8 on the day with four runs scored and two RBI.
Jackie Masone finished 3 for 7 with four runs scored , two RBI, a home run, and a stolen base.
Natalie Alldred went 4-for-8 with three RBI, including a two-run home run in Game One.
Kalea Calugay drove in four runs across the two games and homered in the opener.
Olivia Sciulli recorded six hits across the doubleheader.
Courtney Kols earned the win in Game One, throwing a complete game with three strikeouts.
