PHILADELPHIA – Drexel softball defeated Stony Brook, 14–6, in six innings on Friday afternoon at the Drexel Softball Field. The Dragons improved to 12–10 overall and 2–2 in CAA play.
How It Happened
Drexel jumped out to an early lead in the first inning as Kylah Reading opened the scoring with a solo home run to left center. Later in the inning, Natalie Alldred launched a three-run home run to give the Dragons a 4–0 advantage.
Stony Brook responded with two runs in the second and one in the third, but Drexel added to its lead in the bottom of the third on an RBI single from Annabelle Smink to make it 5–3.
The Dragons broke the game open in the fifth inning, scoring five runs. Kelsie Peters drove in a run with a double before Quinn Cunnigham followed with a two-RBI single. Olivia Sciulli added an RBI triple and Reading capped the inning with an RBI single.
After Stony Brook plated three runs in the sixth, Drexel answered with four runs in the bottom half to end the game by run rule. Smink drove in two runs with a single, Cunnigham added an RBI single, and Sciulli delivered an RBI double to seal the 14–6 victory.
By the Numbers
Kylah Reading went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a home run.
Natalie Alldred finished with a three-run home run.
Annabelle Smink and Quinn Cunnigham each recorded three RBI.
Olivia Sciulli went 2-for-4 with a triple, double, and two RBI.
Drexel totaled 13 hits in the game.
Courtney Kols earned the win, allowing five earned runs over 6.0 innings with three strikeouts.
