Drexel Falls to Saint Joseph's, 10-7

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men's lacrosse team was defeated by the No. 20 Saint Joseph's Hawks on Saturday night at Sweeney Field. The Dragons fall to 4-3 overall.
Conor Hooley and Jack Joyner led Drexel in goals, each scoring two goals apiece.
Brendan Donnelly started in the cage for Drexel and made 12 stops for Drexel.
The Hawks and Drexel were even after one quarter of play. Saint Joseph's won five faceoffs and took 13 of the first 14 shots in the game, outshooting Drexel in the first frame, 16-5. Donnelly kept the game close by making four saves in the first five minutes. The Dragons scored their first goal with 8:10 left to play to tie the game at one. Teddy Luthy set up Joyner in front of the net.
After dropping another goal, Alec Tulio picked up a loose ball after a blocked shot right in front of the cage and buried the shot to tie the game back at two with 4:27 left to play.
The Dragons were outscored 4-0 in the take a 6-2 lead into halftime. The Dragons were limited to just five shots on goal and turned the ball over 12 times.
Out of the half, Drexel jumped out to a four-goal run. Witt Crawford scored the first goal on a man-up opportunity for the Dragons. With nine minutes remaining, Jack Joyner scored a goal and took a shot at the end of it to draw another man-up non-releasable opportunity for the Dragons. Drexel scored 30 seconds into the penalty to pull within one goal. Conor Hooley finished a play started by Crawford.
The Dragons tied the game at six after Hooley and Crawford teamed up once again. SJU finished the frame with a pair of goals to enter the fourth quarter ahead, 8-6.
Saint Joseph's struck first 30 seconds into the frame to go ahead by three goals. Luthy helped Drexel trim the deficit to two with 7:21 left in the fourth quarter. Saint Joseph's did its best to run the game clock down, the home team kept Drexel out of their goal for over five minutes and added a tally of their own to push its lead to three.
Drexel returns to Vidas Field on March 14 to begin CAA play against Monmouth. Action against the Hawks is set for 12 p.m. on FloCollege.
