2014: Was one of the top face-off men in the country…named an Honorable Mention All-American…a First Team All-CAA pick...finished seventh in the nation in both face-off percentage (.620) and ground balls per game (9.22)…came up big for the Dragons in the postseason…won 19 of 22 face-offs in the CAA semifinal win vs. Towson…made national headlines in the NCAA Tournament by winning two straight face-offs and scoring twice within six seconds at the end of the half vs. Penn…he finished the game with his first career hat trick...won 15 or more face-offs in a game 10 times and was 255-for-411 on draws…had a season-best 22 wins against St. John’s and Saint Joseph’s…had 10 games with at least 10 ground balls, including 15 vs. Virginia…shattered the school’s Division I record for ground balls in a season with 166…ended the year with seven goals and five assists.
2013: Had an outstanding season for the Dragons…led the CAA and finished third in the country with 7.67 ground balls per game…his 115 ground balls were the most for a Drexel player since the school joined the CAA…also finished 20th in the nation in face-off percentage at .544…won 10 or more draws nine times and had a career-best 21 wins against Robert Morris…also had a career-high 15 ground balls in that game…won 19 of 22 face-offs in the CAA semifinals…scored four goals and had three assists in 2013…had a goal and an assist against Towson in the regular season…also scored against Bucknell, Delaware and Albany…a CAA Commissioner’s Academic Award recipient.
2012: Named CAA Rookie of the Week after winning seven of eight face-offs in the second half against Towson…finished the year with a .569 face-off percentage, winning 37 of his 65 attempts…scored team’s only man-down goal of the year in regular season meeting with UMass…he was one of only three players in the CAA who had a man-down goal in 2012.
Background: Three-sport standout at Huntington High School…captain of the lacrosse team which won the Suffolk County Class B title…named the 2011 Huntington Offensive Player of the Year and won the Huntington Alumni Aware…was selected All-County and All-Division as a junior and senior, when he led his team in scoring…captain of the hockey team and played on two state championship teams…also lettered two seasons in football as a cornerback and running back…winner of the 2011 Distinguished Senior Award.
Personal: Son of Marc and Cindy Saputo…youngest of two children…his sister, Brianna, played lacrosse at Slippery Rock…a marketing major.
