Men and Women's Swimming & Diving Cruise Past Rowan

The Drexel men's swimming & diving team picked up a 140.5-101.5 victory over Rowan while the women earned a 150-89 triumph. The victories moved both teams' record to 2-2 on the season.
The Drexel women opened the dual strong with a victory by nearly three seconds in the 200 medley relay as Maria Coman, Malin Wiberg, Kelly Scheirer and Lauren Faykes teamed to record a time of 1:55.53. Junior Jessica Csakai followed with a 20-second victory in the 1000 free by touching the wall at 11:10.59. Sheeba Mankus earned the Dragons another nine points with a win in the 200 free. Coman and Morgan Cichewicz finished one-two in the 50 free. Rowan finally halted Drexel's streak of wins with a victory in the 200 IM but Coman answered with her second individual win of the day with a time of 1:02.15 in the 100 fly. Csakai picked up a rare double victory as she added a first-place in the 100 free after taking the 1000 free. Faykes won the 100 back in 1:02.15 while Mankus picked up a win in the 500 free. Once again Rowan was able to slow the Drexel avalanche of wins with a victory in the 100 breast but the Dragons capped the meet with a win in the 400 free relay.
In women's diving action, Megan Halicek swept both the 1- and 3-meter dive with scores of 227.20 and 224.77, respectively. Elena Verdecchio took third in both events with scores of 184.65 in the 1-meter and 192.75 in the 3-meter dive.
The men also got off to a quick start with a win in the 200 medley relay as Dan Zalkind, Sherif Madkour, Mert Karsiyakalilar and Paul Bonnevie were victorious with a time of 1:39.64. Preston Chaffee won the meet's next event, the 1000 free, in a time of 10:39.26, just 0.52 seconds ahead of Rowan's Kyle Banks. T.J. Southmayd continued his unbeaten streak with a win in the 200 free before Rowan finally took nine points with a victory in the 50 free. Madkour responded with a win in the 200 IM while Karsiyakalilar won the 100 fly. Southmayd continued the run of wins with a victory in the 100 free with a time of 48.15. Zalkind continued his strong freshman campaign with a first-place finish in the 100 back. Drexel's distance specialist Adrian Sabovici came through again with a victory in the 500 free in 4:49.25. The Dragons wrapped the meet with a victory from Madkour in the 100 breast and a victory in the 400 free relay.
Stephen Cal won the 1-meter dive with a score of 237.82 with freshman Drew McPhillips placing fourth. In addition to his win, Cal picked up a fourth-place finish in the 3-meter dive.
