Drexel Swimming & Diving to Renew Rivalry with Delaware on Saturday
1/15/2010 3:37:31 PM | Men's Swimming & Diving, Women's Swimming & Diving
Newark, Del. - The Drexel men's and women's swimming & diving teams will face Colonial Athletic Association rival Delaware in a dual meet on Saturday, Jan. 16 at 1:00 p.m. Both the men's and women's team are coming off of last weekend's split in a three-team meet that saw the Dragons defeat Howard but fall to UMBC.
Drexel's Ian Jevnick will look to sweep both boards in the diving events. Already a three-time CAA Diver of the Week this season, Jevnick has had a strong start to the season, including a finals berth at the Georgia Diving Invitational. Sherif Madkour was the Dragons' most impressive performer in the pool last weekend where he reeled off three victories against UMBC and Howard. He triumphed in the 100 and 200 breast along with the 200 IM.
On the women's side, Maria Coman and may be the Dragons' top candidate for a win in the backstroke. Amanda Brown and Malin Wiberg are two of Drexel's younger swimmers but will likely compete in the 100 and 200 breast on Saturday. Freshmen Lauren Faykes and Wiberg could also be candidates for Head Coach Shawn Markey in individual medley action.
