Philadelphia - Drexel women's lacrosse will host No. 3 Penn in a non-conference game played at Vidas Field on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 4:00 p.m. The Dragons enter the game with a perfect 4-0 record after dismantling Saint Joseph's, 8-2, on Wednesday. Saturday's game will be the first of the year for the Quakers, who have made the NCAA Final Four in each of the last three seasons.
Katie Lawson has been leading the Drexel offense. The CAA Co-Player of the Week has 15 goals in Drexel's first four games, including a pair of five-goal performances. While Lawson totaled four goals against Saint Joseph's, the Drexel defense was the key to the win over the Hawks. Whitney Johnson made 11 saves while junior Sarah Bauer caused a career-high six turnovers as the Dragons kept Saint Joseph's scoreless over the first 44 minutes of the game.
Penn returns five of its top seven scorers from last season. Ali DeLuca, a two-time First-Team All-Ivy midfielder and two-time Second-Team IWLCA All-America led the Quakers with 40 goals and 15 assists in 2009. Also on attack will be 2009 Ivy League Rookie of the Year Erin Brennan who led the Quakers with 18 assists while finding the back of the cage 27 times. Emma Spiro is the top returner in midfield for Penn. She was second on the team in 2009 with 32 goals while registering a quarter of the team's draw control wins, securing 50 draws. She also picked up 31 ground balls while turning the ball over just nine times all season.
