No. 10 Towson Tops Drexel Women's Lacrosse 12-8 at Vidas Field

Philadelphia- Drexel played No. 10 Towson close in the first half, leading the game early and twice coming back to take a lead before the Tigers (11-3, 4-1) made a run before haltime to pull away for a 12-8 victory. Becca Drylie-Perkins led the Dragons (10-5, 2-3) with three goals and an assist and Katie Lawson added a pair of goals. Nikki Marcinik and Jess Dunn led the Tigers with three goals apiece.
Towson opened scoring with a free-position goal by Nikki Marcinik seven and a half minutes into the game. But the Dragons stormed back with goals by Drylie-Perkins and Katie Blazer to take a 2-1 lead with just under 20 minutes left in the opening period.
The Tigers responded with three straight scores, capped by two from Jess Dunn to pull back ahead 4-2 at the 12:33 mark in the half. Undaunted, the Dragons would answer with a goal from Kelli Joran on a feed from Drylie-Perkins and square the game at 4-4 with under five minutes to play in the half on free-position goal by Katie Lawson.
The contest turned in the final five minutes of the half as Towson would put in three goals before heading into the locker room with a 7-4 lead. The closely contested half saw Towson earn seven draw controls to Drexel's five and outshoot the Dragons 18-11.
Drylie-Perkins tried to grab momentum for Drexel coming out of the break, scoring an unassisted goal 10 minutes into the half to cut Towson's lead to 7-5.
Jacie Kendall, Katie Cloud and Lauren McAfee delivered Towson's response with three goals in a matter of a minute and a 19 seconds to take a commanding 10-5 lead on McAfee's score from Kendall.
Drexel would claw back on goals by Drylie-Perkins and Morgan Holbrook to make it a 10-7 lead, but Towson put the game away with two more scores off the sticks of Marcinik and Katie Cloud. Drexel's final goal was a free-position strike from Lawson with 5:52 on the clock, but the Dragons were unable to complete their comeback.
Towson outshot Drexel 35-22 in the game and won 14 draw controls to Drexel's eight. Both teams capitalized on four of eight free-position opportunities. The Dragons committed 19 turnovers to Towson's 14 in the contest. Whitney Johnson made 15 saves in net for Drexel while Mary Teeters stopped eight shots for the Tigers.
Drexel returns to action on Sunday when the Dragons travel to play Delaware at 1:00 in Newark, Del.
