
Blue Hens Rally to Defeat Drexel Women's Lacrosse, 12-11

Newark, Del. - Delaware erased a three-goal deficit late in the second half with the five of the game's final six goals to pull out a 12-11 victory over Drexel. The Dragons were led by Katie Lawson who scored four goals while Becca Drylie-Perkins added three goals. Julianna Jeffers scored the game-winner for the Blue Hens with 2:51 remaining for her fourth goal of the game. The loss dipped Drexel's record to 10-6 overall and 2-4 in the Colonial Athletic Association while Delaware improved to 6-10 and 3-4 in the CAA.
The game was back and forth early as the hosts opened the scoring just 32 seconds into the contest but Drylie-Perkins answered with 27;40 remaining. Jeffers notched her first of the game just 39 seconds later but this time Lawson had the answer for Drexel with an unassisted goal at 20:27. Drylie-Perkins' second goal of the game gave the Dragons their first lead of the contest but the Blue Hens responded with the next two goals to give them a 4-3 edge with 10:48 left in the half. The third lead change was less than three minutes away though as Lawson and Drylie-Perkins each converted free-position shots as the Dragons led 5-4 with 8:05 remaining. Ali Libertini scored the half's final goal on a free-position shot as the teams went to halftime deadlocked, 5-5.
Corinne Drost of Delaware scored on a free-position shot just over a minute into the period but Lawson answered with game's fifth-consecutive goal on an 8-meter attempt. Lawson's goal sparked a four-goal run that saw Emily Kane, Alyse Maiden and Kelli Joran score to give Drexel the game's biggest lead for any team as the Dragons led 9-6. Holly Burman brought Delaware a goal closer but Katie Blazer scored just nine seconds later to move Drexel's lead back to three goals. Delaware regrouped as Jeffers scored twice while Courtney Aburn also tallied to even the game at 10-10 with 8:32 left in the game. Lawson scored her third free-position shot of the game with 7:46 left but it was the team's final lead of the game as Aburn and Jeffers each added tallies to complete the comeback and defeat the Dragons, 12-11.
While Drexel outshot Delaware, 30-21, for the game, the Blue Hens held key advantages in both draw controls and saves. Delaware won 17 of the game's 24 draws while Dana Mazzarella made 12 saves with Drexel's Whitney Johnson and Rachael Behrndt combined for five saves. Nicole Musto had a solid game at midfield as she totaled a team-highs of four groundballs and three of the team's seven draw controls.
The Dragons will cap their season on Thursday, April 29 as Drexel hosts Hofstra at 4:00 p.m. Prior to the game, Drexel will honor its seniors as part of Senior Day festivities.
